Day 6

We started off the day by getting to work by ourselves.  We just had to make sure we wouldn't get lost on Tuesday when we start.  After the bike ride, we had another meeting as a house and just discussed things that came up throughout the week, or just things that we missed.  After that discussion, we ate some lunch and then had our last meeting with the Alaska unit.  After our meeting, we got packed up and headed out to camp, which is only about a 40-minute drive for us, which is awesome.   We are tenting for the first time and Rocky Mountain Mennonite Camp.  Michael and I got our 2-person tent set up in record time, even though we were basically pounding our stakes into solid rock.  We learned that there are about 150 campers out here this weekend, which is more than any of us have ever seen out here.  There is a college cross-country team and another church group alongside the work and play group.  Once we were settled in, Corvin led us on some team-building challenges, which turned out to be really fun.  First, we had to use land skis with four people.  This taught us good communication because one person had to direct everyone, so we would walk in sync.  After that, we tried another challenge where we all had to hold and pull strings to tighten a rope around a can and then carry that can to another can, and dump the ball into the other can.  This one was pretty challenging because we missed the dump bucket so many times.  After that, we hiked up the mountain a little way and did a 2-person balance beam.  The idea was that we had to push against each other while walking on 2 logs that slowly got farther apart.  Michael and I had a hard time with this because I'm short.  When Michael and Christian did it, they made it look very easy.  After that, we had to balance a teeter-totter as a group.  We found this one to be pretty easy, and we even held it longer than needed.  On to the next challenge, we had to build a bridge across an “acid river”.  We only had four boards, so we had to pass them up to the person in the front.  We had a hard time with this and only figured out the right way to do it after we had made it across, doing it wrong twice.  The final challenge was to walk blindfolded down the trail with someone else guiding you.  I first guided Christian down the trail, which went very smoothly, and then we switched, and that also went very smoothly.  When we were done with all the challenges, we went inside and ate our leftover pulled pork since the camp didn't feed supper that night.  After we finished eating, we had a meeting about what the projects were for the next day.  When the meeting was over, all the work and play participants had to get in a birthday order line, without talking.  Let's just say this did not go well, and we ended up with an October birthday in the middle of July.  After the birthday line, we were numbered off into tables for the next activity.  Corvin listed off lots of things, and if we had done it, then we would have gotten a point for our group.  There were a lot of random questions.  First place ended with 192 points, and our group got second with 174 points.  When this was over, Mary brought out cookies for us to enjoy.  Then it was off to bed in the tents.
