Day 8
I began the day by waking up early and hiking up Raspberry with some people I had met the day before. The way up was very smooth, and the top provided a lovely sight of Pikes Peak. I decided to take a different way back down, which didn't go as well as the way up. I hiked about an extra mile past camp and ended up having to hike the road for about a mile. I made it back about 20 minutes late for church, but still caught the sermon, which is obviously the most important part. After church, we had brunch and fellowship time. After brunch, I went on a treasure hunt and was unsuccessful. Then I decided to take a nap on the swings. After my nap, I hiked up Monkey Rock and got a good view of Pikes Peak and the camp. I also checked out the mine. After that, we had a few exciting games of phooseball. Then it was time for supper and more fellowship time. Then we got packed up and headed back to Colorado Springs. When we got to Colorado Springs, we headed straight to the Labor Day launch. It was a traffic nightmare, but Leigha handled it really well. She dropped us off at some e-bikes and we rode into the show. When we got there, Christian and Leigha took Naomi home, and Michael and I stayed at the show. We valeted our bikes and headed in on foot. There were more people here than I had ever seen anywhere. There were 70 or more hot air balloons. They had an announcer who would tell the balloon operators how to do the light show. He would tell them to flicker the fire in the balloon, or he would tell them to do full burn, which meant full fire on all the balloons. There were many different shapes, sizes, and colors, as you can see in my pictures. After the balloon show wrapped up, they got going with a concert, and the band playing was one I had never heard of, but they did play a few songs I knew. The concert was supposed to be a transition into the drone show. While we were waiting for the drone show, we found some random people playing volleyball and joined in. It was getting so dark that it was hard to ever see the ball, and it got away from us quite a few times. We had some good saves before the ball would hit people, and some people also got hit by the ball. The drone show was pretty cool. They put all sorts of shapes, colors, and words up in the sky. There are pictures of the drone show in the album. After the drone show, we had the hectic task of getting our bikes out of the valet and riding them through the huge crowds before getting to the open road and heading for home.
