Day 66 October 28

 Today I was with maintenance.  I rode with Frank.  The first thing we did was go to Ceders and put batteries in a smoke detector.  After that, we had three evictions to do.  When we do evictions, we have the police come and ensure the rooms are clear. Then, all the maintenance staff and a group of leasing agents help clear the room if possible.  Usually, the rooms are so trashed that we don't clean anything out.  We started at U.P., then went to Plaze, and then went to Woodbine.  After completing the evictions, we went to East Hills and began working on replacing a toilet.  It had 2 big cracks in it, so it was not fixable.  We got the old one out and then had to wait for a while for Tony to bring us the new one.  We got the new one in without much trouble, but then we also found out that the shower drain was clogged, so we worked on that for a long time, and we didn't get it much better before we had to give up.  Then we went over to Enfield and worked on another plugged shower drain that we also couldn't get, and we had to have the plumber come out and fix it.  Then we replaced a mailbox lock and replaced a shower head for another resident.  After that, we had to fix a lock on one of our maintenance closets that someone had ripped apart.  When we were done with that, we had to move some no-parking signs that a resident had stolen from the city, and decided to put them all over our parking lot.  Then we thought we were done with Enfield, so we went to Lowe's to get parts for going over to Kitthawk.  While we were at Lowes, we got a call and we had to go replace some fuses on one of the boilers back at Enfield, so that finished off the day.  On the way home, 2 homeless guys told me I had a nice bike and asked if they could ride it.  I told them absolutely not.  When I got home, Trilby was making supper, and I did some of my kitchen chores.  Trilby made a soup for supper and some cheese bread.  After supper, Leigha led us in a learning component, and she taught us about pregnancy since she is about to have a baby.  After the learning component, we watched an episode of Severance, and I got a space heater before going to bed.

Day 28

We got up at 3:30, hoping to hit the road at 4 and then be on the trail at 4:30.  We were pretty close to on time.  We were hiking Mount Princeton.  Since we were in a van, we had to hike from the lower parking lot up a Four Wheel Drive trail for 3 to 4 miles.  When we finally hit single track, it didn't take long for us to be rock scrambling.  We had about 3 miles of rock scrambling to the top.  About half of it was just along the side of the mountain, but then we really turned uphill and had a pretty steep scramble to the top.  We finally made it to the top, and it was an amazing view for a little bit.  A snowstorm was moving in quickly, and we watched it start from a nearby mountain and slowly come toward us.  We had a slippery scramble down the shale on the mountain.  Then the snowstorm caught us, and it was kind of just a sleet, but it made all the rocks very slippery.  By this point, some people were fighting headaches.  ...

Day 26

Today I was with maintenance again.  We started off by going to Arcadia to do some inspections.  These rooms were much better kept than the last apartment we did inspections in.  We only had to do 3 rooms, so it didn't take long.  Then Bill took me over to Bentley, where I continued taking pictures again.  I did pictures most of the day, and then Bill picked me up at about 3:30 and we headed back to the office.  It was my day to cook, so I decided to make a pizza, which turned out pretty well.  After supper, we decided to try another community youth group for young adults again.  It was kind of like a church service with singing and a sermon.  I was not super into it because it was a non-denominational group, and they just do things a little differently.  On the bike ride home, my chain fell off while crossing the bridge over the highway.

Day 32

Today was pantry day.  Since Trilby hurt her finger yesterday, she tagged along with me to the pantry.  I started by running to Home Depot to get a wagon wheel for the wagon at the pantry.  When I got back from Home Depot, we picked up Doug and went over to the pantry.  Jenni was sick today.  We dropped Doug off at the pantry and then went to pick up the food at Sprouts and Trader Joe's.  We had a relatively light haul from Sprouts, but a fairly substantial haul from Trader Joe's.  We got everything put away in the pantry in record time and then had time for a good, long lunch break.  There were not a lot of good options for lunch, but eventually I found a pretty good sandwich.  After lunch, we started the pantry and had about 20 to 30 people come through.  It was not that many people at the end of the month, because usually by that time their government funds have run out.  Once we hit about 2 o'clock, we pretty much didn't have an...
