Day 67 October 29
Today was pantry day, and it was a hectic mess. We started with doing our pickups, and we got really stuck in construction, so the pickups took longer than they should have. We had the worst haul we had ever had from Sprouts. We only had about 6 boxes. Thankfully, Trader Joe's was an ok haul. We had to heavily limit the amount of food we were handing out. Our food amounts were about one-third of what they usually are. When we got started, we had a rush of people for about an hour and a half. We had to watch all the food carefully so that people didnt take more then they were allowed because we were very worried we were very worried about running out. I had to tell a lot of people to put food back because they took too much and apparently can't read the signs. It would be nice if people were less selfish in this situation because everyone is struggling, and everyone should have an equal opportunity to get food. We had a record number of 72 people come through the pantry. We usually have around 40 to 50 people come through the pantry. By the end of the day, we were all peopled out. We also learned today that the heat didn't work at the pantry, so we had to bring in a bunch of space heaters. After we were done, Jenni and I loaded up what little food was left and went back to the office. We had to get creative because we had run out of boxes earlier. When we got back to the office, we cleaned out the van, and I headed home. When I got home, I sampled the few treats I had brought home and was quite disappointed in my selection. We decided to do a group meal for supper since we were all there and made a bunch of mac and cheese with sausage and peas. After supper, I relaxed for a while before we finished the evening by watching a couple of episodes of Severance.
