Day 275 June 22
This morning, we started by setting up some tents to make sure they worked. Then we got together all the other stuff we needed for camping, which was quite a lot of stuff. After some lunch, we hit the road to go see the Byron Glacier. On the way, we stopped at Boluga Point to try to see some wildlife, but we had no luck. It was still a beautiful spot to stop. Then we continued on to the hike. It was about a mile and a half to the glacier. When we made it to the glacier, we decided to climb all the way to the top because there was a pretty waterfall at the top. It was a very tough climb, but it was awesome at the top. When we were done taking in the view, getting down was really fun. There was a long stretch where we were able to sit down and slide. When we made it down the glacier, we hiked back out to the car, where we realized we had left the lights on and had to use our jump pack. Then we continued on to Whittier since we heard to was cool and there was an epic tunnel to get there. Traffic switches directions in the tunnel every thirty minutes, so we had a long time to wait. Going through the tunnel was really cool. When we made it to Whittier, we drove around the town looking at the huge military housing that they had there. When the military was using the town, they had everything they needed in one building, including housing and a huge movie theater. When we were done driving around, we headed back to the tunnel and timed it just right with the next traffic flow. Then we made the drive back into Anchorage and went to the grocery store to get everything we would need for camping. When we were done shopping, we headed to the Eagle River campground. We found out that we had accidentally reserved the group platform campsite, which was huge and not what we wanted. We were able to change campsites to a normal one, and then we cooked some brats for supper. After supper, we did the dishes and then sat around until we were tired of the bugs and retreated to our tents for the night.
